Who is Tide Trek for?

Snorkeling is a common gateway to the awe-inspiring world of underwater adventure sports.
If you’re a beginner, then you’ve come to the right place!

The Novice:

Feeling nervous is especially common when starting out with an adventure sport. Here, you’ll find practical and entertaining resources to help you get started. I want you to be confident and safe as you begin your underwater exploration journey!

The Amateur:

If you’re a more experienced aquatic adventurer, there’s still plenty of content to get you excited about your next trip. Whether it’s equipment guides, how-to tutorials, technique break-downs, or just some fascinating marine science, I’ve got something you’re sure to enjoy!

Who am I?

Hi! I’m Sarah!

My journey started when I was a toddler. I’ve always enjoyed being in the water, and an obsession with marine animals seems to be part of my genetics. I don’t know how or why these interests developed, they’ve just always been a part of me.

Snorkeling and skin diving were second nature to me by the time I was 12, and I got my SCUBA certification when I was a teen. Surfing and freediving are now the most recent sports I’ve taken a shine to (and boy, are they challenging!)

What are my credentials?

My professional life has proceeded in parallel with my recreational life. I was a research assistant for a limnology professor during college. For that job, snorkeling and skin diving were routine field activities. I have since completed both a Master’s and Ph.D. studying various aspects of whale and dolphin biology. These remarkable sea mammals have much to teach us about the hidden worlds we glimpse through our snorkel masks!

Unfortunately, being a professional scientist kind of takes over your life. That means it’s become harder for me in recent years to justify spending time on adventure sports…

So that’s where the idea for Tide Trek came from:

By developing a water sports blog, I can encourage both myself and you to pursue underwater adventure, even if we’re stuck at home!
